CCSO Scheduled for CALEA Assessment


(Charlotte County) The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.


Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation will encompass both the Law Enforcement and the Communications division of the office. The program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.


Agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling 941- 833-1878 on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00

p.m. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.


Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability to comply with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. For more information, please contact Katie Heck, PIO at 941-575- 5227 or the Professional Compliance Section at 941-575-5340.


A public hearing regarding the Law Enforcement Accreditation will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 5:00 PM at the Charlotte County Jail Training Center, located at 26601 Airport Road, Punta Gorda. Those wishing to address the assessors will be limited to 5 minutes and must address standard related issues.

Saturday, July 27, 2019 - Teen Driver Challenge

The Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Florida Sheriffs Association, is offering a free Teen Driver Challenge course for Charlotte County teens to help hone their driving skills to help prevent traffic crashes. Additional information and the application for this training can be found on our website ( under News & Events. An application must be completed and submitted before a spot can be held for your child. You can submit an application to any of our District locations with the attention to Jillian Reich or you can email it to Once an application is received you will be contacted to confirm your child's spot in an upcoming class. The next Teen Driving Challenge will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019

Time:        8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Locations: Classroom Portion -> Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Training Facility (25500 Airport Rd., Punta Gorda, FL 33950) / Driving Portion -> Old Jones Loop Rest Area
