Citizens' Police Academy

Sheriff Bill Prummell invites you to attend the next Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Citizens' Police Academy.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Citizens' Police Academy was established in January 1999.

The Citizens' Police Academy is a program designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Sheriff's Office. We offer several types of classes throughout the year.

Our next class will be based in Punta Gorda with tours of the Jail, Aviation and other locations in the Punta Gorda Area. Classes based in Englewood have not been scheduled yet. Starting on Wednesday, February 7th we will be holding our daytime class. Every Wednesday for 9 weeks starting at 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. we will hear from presenters with a wealth of knowledge about Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. To sign up go online and fill out the application. Questions, call 941-575-5345.

Major Crimes, Use of Force, K-9, S.W.A.T., Forensics, Recruiting and meeting the Sheriff are examples of some of the topics that are covered. Instruction consists of lectures, demonstrations, tours, and ride along with a deputy.

We hope the graduates of the Citizens' Police Academy become more aware and better informed about how the Sheriff’s Office operates, and will encourage friends, coworkers and families to join the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in this rewarding program.
