Victim Advocate
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office Victim's Assistance Program provides a number of services for victims of crime in Charlotte County. In order to better serve our citizens, a Victim Advocate is available Monday through Thursday 8:00am-12:00pm. This is also a 24-hour on-call program.
Advocates provide the following:
- Crisis Counseling
- Emotional Support
- Referrals and information
- Assistance with understanding the judicial system
- Assistance with filing of Victim's Compensation Claims
- Assisting victims/family in obtaining information about the case (i.e. court dates, arrests made)
- Personal Advocacy
Types of victimization generally targeted for services funded by the Victim's of Crime Act include:
- Child victims of physical abuse or sexual assault
- Victims of DUI/DWI crashes
- Victims of Domestic Violence
- Adult survivors of incest or child sexual abuse
- Survivors of homicide victims
- Victims of assault
- Victims of Elder Abuse
- Victims of Robbery
