Road Patrol Deputy

Job Summary: Under general supervision, performs a variety of sworn law enforcement duties to protect the public and preserve the peace on the public roads and related areas within Charlotte County, Florida.

Essential Job Functions:

Patrols an assigned area of the County to deter/detect violations of the law, including responding to emergencies, responding to/investigating complaints, accidents or calls for assistance, interviewing witnesses and others regarding incidents/complaints, assisting motorists, enforcing traffic laws and issuing citations.

Prepares criminal investigation case packages, including locating, preserving, documenting, collecting and packaging evidence found at crime scenes, completing forms/records of all activities in accordance with established policy/procedure.

Serves civil and criminal process papers and makes arrests, ensuring that appropriate paperwork is complete and accurate and that proper procedures have been followed.

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of approved training and certification, including CCSO Field Training, as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer in compliance with the requirements of the State of Florida. Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Physical Effort Required:

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of standing, walking, hearing, and kneeling, reaching, feeling, grasping, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, crawling, fingering, and performing repetitive motions. Must be able to perform work pushing/pulling/grappling of persons or objects up to 200 pounds of force occasionally: 20 pounds frequently (uniform vest, belt): and 10 pounds constantly.

Working Conditions:

Deputies are required to work shift work including weekends, holidays, and overtime in a 24-hour operation and must be able to work at any time his/her services are needed. Whether on or off duty, deputies are expected to be armed and to exercise arrest authority whenever necessary. May spend significant time driving in all weather conditions and during both day and night-time hours.
