Holiday Safety III
December 28, 2011
Congratulations, Charlotte County! We have gotten through the Christmas rush and flurry of shopping with no major incidents to report. I trust everyone had a nice Christmas holiday with friends and family.
The New Year is just around the corner and I want to remind everyone that responsible celebration on New Years Eve is great! But, irresponsible decisions on New Years Eve can be tragic.
New Year's Eve is typically thought of as a night of celebrations and parties. But as we wait to watch the infamous ball drop at Time Square in New York City, we need to remember to keep your “holiday spirits” that come in bottles as far away from your car keys as possible. It would NOT be a very Happy New Year if it started out with a not-so-happy DUI arrest or worse!
My officers WILL be out in force all New Year's Eve weekend. They will be conducting multiple low manpower DUI Saturation Checkpoints as well as roving DUI patrols. We don't announce the exact times or locations of these operations so my advice to anyone thinking about drinking and driving this weekend is simply…DON'T.
If you know you will be drinking this weekend, play it safe by having a designated driver.
We wish everyone a Safe and Happy New Year!
Your Sheriff,
Bill Cameron
