The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Citizen's Police Academy was established in January 1999.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is an 8 week (includes graduation) program designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office. Each session consists of eight consecutive weekly night classes at Sheriff’s Office facilities. The instruction is comprehensive and each week separate areas of the Sheriff’s Office are covered.

Homicide, Use of Force, Internal Affairs, S.W.A.T., Forensics, Recruiting and meeting the Sheriff are examples of some of the topics that are covered. Instruction consists of lectures, demonstrations, tours, and riding with a deputy on a twelve-hour shift.

We hope the graduates of the Citizen’s Police Academy become more aware and better informed about how the Sheriff’s Office operates, and will encourage friends, coworkers and families to join the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in this rewarding program.
